Apostle Marcos
Apostle Marcos, born as John, owed his Christian faith and principles to his Christian mother Mary, a Christian from Jerusalem. He was the nephew of Barnabas (one of the first Christians who along with the twelve Apostles helped spread the Christian religion) and Saint Paul also called him his son. He accompanied Saint Paul and Saint Barnabas on various missionary journeys. He was in Rome with Saint Paul during his first imprisonment, and was with Saint Peter in Rome when he wrote his first letter. His missionary work was spread in Egypt, where he founded the Church of Alexandria and was its prelate from 43 AD to his martyred death in 68 AD. His relics are kept in the Basilica of Saint Marcus.
