The technique of the icon is referred as encaustic because the painting pigment was mixed with wax, or wax and resin and for its application a hot iron or other tool was used.
In the icon, Christ’s features are depicted with a slight asymmetry of the eyes that symbolize His timeless entity influenced by the Fayum technique, whereas the shades of the skin and the emitted light accentuate the non-human nature of Christ.
