Saint Andrei
Andrei Rublov (around 1360 – 1427 A.D.) is considered the greatest medieval Russian hagiographer and one of the foremost hagiographers of Byzantine icons. His artwork resembles that of Theophanis the Greek, but it is considered to be superior in the way he illustrates the spirituality of the forms. His technique combines asceticism with harmony, as required by the Byzantine model. His forms, which are serene and peaceful, classify him among the best in Orthodox iconography. In 1988, the Russian Church proclaimed him saint under the name Apostle Andreas the Iconographer and his memory is celebrated on July 4.
