Saint Barbara
Saint Barbara was born and lived in Nicomedia of Asia Minor, during the reign of Maximilian in the 3rth century AD and was known for her beauty and grace. Her father was a zealous nationalist gentile named Dioscorus or Diosorus, who in order to protect her from suitors, deprived her of her freedom. However, he failed to deprive her of her true love to Jesus. Her father then infuriated by the conversion of his daughter to Christianity, delivered her to the Roman Governor during the time of the Christian persecutions. According to Symeon her biographer, her father himself beheaded her but was himself struck by lightning immediately upon completing his crime. Her memory is celebrated on December 4.
