Saint Christoforos

Saint Christoforos lived during the reign of Decius, when Bishop of Antioch was the Saint Martyr Babylas. He is referred to and often depicted as the Dog-headed or Cynoscephalae, because of his origin from a region in Asia where people are often described as dog-headed, due to their lack of education. Saint Christoforos, born as Reprovos, was captured as a prisoner during a war and was transferred to Antioch, where he was baptized Christian by the Martyr Babylas. It is said that he used to pass pilgrims from one bank of a river to the other, Christ being one of them. The cause for his decapitation was the conversion to the Christian religion of Roman soldiers who were sent to arrest him, and of two women who were sent to seduce him.
