He is one of the most popular saints in the Greek Church. The icon of Saint Fanourios was revealed in Rhodes, by chance, by a stranger in the 14th century A.D. The icon was found among others under the ruins of a temple. In this icon Saint Fanourios is depicted as a young man dressed military, holding a Cross and a lit candle. The icon has on all sides of it scenes from the life of the Saint and of the cruel tortures he suffered, which reveal the extent of his faith. A church was built in his honor at the place where the icon was found. On the eve of the of Saint Fanourios’ feast on August 27, the traditional "Pie of Saint Fanourios" is being baked, a pie that is shared among the faithful to bring health and happiness to their beloved ones and even to help find lost objects.
