Saint Gregorios
Saint Gregorios the Theologian was born to a family of Christian faith supported by the power of knowledge. His father was Gregorios, Bishop of Nazianzo and his brother and sister, Kaisarios and Gorgonia that are commemorated by the Orthodox Church on March 9 and on February 23 respectively. Gregorios studied for 13 years in Palestine, in Alexandria and in Athens. A deep friendship connected him to Vasilios and together they passed the test towards spiritual life at Pontos. At the age of 43 years old he returned to "active" life as bishop in the area of Sasima. He fought against the Arian heretics that were everywhere in Constantinople with knowledge and strong rhetorical speech. From the temple of Saint Anastasia and risking his life, he defeated Arianism and became Patriarch of Constantinople. However he did not succeed to overcome a number of bishops who opposed him for their own tacky benefits. He returned to his birthplace Arianzo and passed away in 390 A.D.
