Saint Irina

Saint Irina was born as Penelope to Persian parents, followers of Zoroastrism. Her character and culture helped her discover the Christian religion through a Christian housemaid who was known for her virtue. Licinius by order of the priests of his religion ordered the killing of his daughter by horse kicks. But when by miracle, one of the horses run amok and killed Licinius, Irina raised him from the dead; then her parents and lots of people who were watching, converted to Christianity. Many tried to kill Irina but the Lord made her invulnerable to all kind of torture. Her fame led her to Savorio the king of Persia who ordered her decapitation. However when Irina was arisen and the king saw her alive, he also became Christian. She died peacefully and our Church celebrates her memory on May, 5.
