Saint John the Baptist
One of the "great" saints of our Church, Saint John the Baptist lived an ascetic life in the desert of Judea until his thirties. He lived on locusts and honey, was sunburned, serious, decent, and dynamic with an impartial and remarkable personality. He prepared Jesus’ coming through his teachings that can be summarized in the phrase "Repent? the kingdom of heaven is near". His celebration became official in the 5th century.
