Saint Loucas
Of Syrian origin and Greek nationality, Osios Loucas, known as Evangelist Loucas was a doctor and an exceptional painter. The first icons of the Virgin Mary and of the Apostles Peter and Paul were his work of art. Apostle Paul preached him in the Christian faith and guided him to the path of the Christian life so from then on he devoted his life spreading the Christian religion and preaching the Gospel. He toured in Italy, in France, in Greece and in other places preaching till his old age, following the example of Apostle Paul. He wrote the third Gospel of the New Testament and the Acts of the Apostles. He passed away at the age of 80 years old, peacefully as some people say or as a martyr according to others, around 84 A.D. His relics were transferred to Constantinople, in the Temple of Saint Apostles. His memory is celebrated on October 18.
