Saint Mattheos, Christ’s disciple, wrote the first Gospel of the New Testament in 64 A.D. originated from Galilee and his profession was a publicant. When Jesus asked him to be one of his disciples he immediately responded positively and followed Jesus. He abandoned his profession and offered his home to Jesus. When the Pharisees saw Jesus staying at the house of a publicant they accused him of sympathizing with a sinner. He then responded that His purpose on earth was to call near Him all those that were ready to repent and be rescued. Saint Mattheos spread the words of Christ and the Gospel in many regions as well as in Ethiopia where he became a martyr and left the earthly life.
