Saint Panteleimon
Saint Panteleimon from Nicomedia in Asia Minor followed the Christian faith through his mother Euvouli. He was catechized and baptized by Ermolaos, the senior priest of his Church while he was trained in medicine. By the power of his faith to Jesus he performed miracles. With his faith and medical knowledge he was able to cure all those that were in need without asking any money and in the same time, he was able to distribute the huge property inherited from his father who although being a pagan all his life, was baptized to Christianity before his death. The doctors of his region denounced him to Diocletian, the king of Nicomedia (286-305 A.D.) a vile person and enemy of Christianity, who forced him to many tortures all of which Panteleimon survived miraculously. At the end he was beheaded. His memory is celebrated on July 27.
