Saint Paul
He was born in Tarsus of Cilicia to Jewish parents. His father was a Roman citizen and probably a Pharisee in religion. Saint Paul studied the Greek language and learned about the Greek civilization. He became a pupil of Gamaliel and studied Jewish Theology thoroughly. He is referred to as a cruel persecutor of the Christian religion, up until Christ revealed Himself to him on his way to Damascus and from then on he was convinced that Jesus had resurrected and ascended to heaven as the Son of God. He wrote half of the New Testament Books and became an advocate and supporter of the universality of Jesus’ teaching. According to tradition, Paul was beheaded (66 AD or 68 AD) without undergoing torture, because the law forbade the torturing of Roman citizens. He is regarded as the first Christian theologian, the first after the One.
