Saint Zoe
Saint Zoe, with her husband Esperos and their two children, Kyriakos and Theodoulos, lived as slaves of Katallos the Roman, during the reign of Emperor Hadrian in the 2nd century A.D. They were not allowed to pray and praise their God however Saint Zoe was secretly praying and trying to convert other slaves to the Christian faith. When they were forced to renounce their faith, she and all her family preferred the martyr death. Though burned alive, their bones remained intact, indicating the eternity and the heavenly glory given by the Lord. The emperor Justinian built a church in memory of Saint Zoe, which was destroyed and rebuilt from the foundations in 886 A.D. by Basil A’.
