The Birth of Virgin Mary

In byzantine hagiography in the icon of the Natal, the Virgin Mary is depicted being placed inside a cradle like a baby, with Saint Anne present in most of the icons, is frequently depicted as half sitting on a bed, with a sad expression, having servants attending on Her for being in childbed. Saint Joachim’s figure is also present. The colors of the icon are intense, the faces are bright and a joyful tone is everywhere.
