The greeting of Myroforae - Silver icon on wood, locally gold plated - Mount Athos
Seriograph icon crafted in canvas on wood, with silver frame, locally gilded, with wooden casing.
With this icon you will receive a free stand.
The greeting of Myroforae (Hail Myroforae)
The Resurrection of Christ is the most joyful celebration of Christianity, the happiest day for the Orthodoxy when the meaning of the eternal life is transmitted all over. In the byzantine hagiography however, the Resurrection, the moment Christ comes out of the tomb, is never depicted. There is no witnessing of the instant, so there is no representation, only scenes are shown where the angel points at the grave to the Myroforae, Saint John and Apostle Peter bowing over the "empty" tomb, Mary Magdalene kneeling before Christ, the icon "the descent to Hades" and the very famous icon "Hail Myroforae" where the Myroforae ladies are kneeling before Christ.
The icon "Hail Myroforae" adorns the Monastery of Saint Catherine of Sinai.
